At a time when expose of scams rile the country, the mud-slinging between UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Uttar Pradesh CM Mayawati over corruption has further exasperated the situation and it unambiguously indicates that nobody seems to be earnest in efforts to bridle the soaring sleaze that is eating into the vitals of the nation.
Day after day skeletons of scams and scandals tumble out though, political parties are on claiming spree that they cannot tolerate corruption. Profound irony is that the UPA government per se is having Titanic-sink in corruption, but it gives sermons to other political parties to take a cue from the Congress on its dealing with unscrupulous elements. The Congress appears to have obliged the nation by turfing out Ashok Chavan from the post of Maharashtra CM in face of Adarsh Housing Society scam.
The Congress wants to settle scores by rolling up sleeves against the huge irregularities in CWG and 2G Spectrum respectively. Needless to say, Suresh Kalmadi was sacked from very trivial post (JPC), which hardly might bring twist on his countenance and the government enforced Raja to resign as well when the Congress was left with no choice. Does the Congress-led government have any explanation for the Supreme Court’s question that why Raja has not been interrogated?
If the ruling dispensation has no deal with 2G spectrum scam, why is it reluctant for JPC? If the Centre did not commit wrong, as claims it, why does the government duck the Opposition’s demand? It goes from bad to worse that on one hand the government is trying to hush up the 2G issue, on the other it is vociferous about its honesty, good governance and transparency.
The government’s claim seems to be indecent that the culprits will not be spared while it is somersaulting to protect them with impunity. The face of such honest leadership gets maligned when it is swayed by corrupt elements around. Nobody can deny that the BJP leadership knelt down before Yeddyurappa, but it also does not empower the Congress to provide protege to wrongdoers.
The Congress recently floated a ploy of ‘no work no pay’ that the MPs will forgo allowance for session during the period of disruption. The issue is not of Rs 2000 rather the staggering scam of 1.76 crore which has sent a shock to the nerves of people of India. It is outrageous to find that the political parties bat for their clean image where the political pitch of the country is stirred with scams and scandals. The nation knows that the sleaze and corruption are northward, for the political parties have no qualm in giving corrupt elements safe haven.
