Believe it or not! But it is true that these two personalities have great impact on every one’s life. Both should be given highest form of regard. Good and capable Master/Teachers are rewarded on the basis of our past karmas. Even after having a good and capable Master/Teachers, your devotion and love  towards  Master/Teacher,  learning skills and sincerity are other factors which matter the most. Let me first clear the difference between Master (The Guru) and the Teacher(The Adhyapak) .  Master(Guru) is the greatest among all. “GURU BRAHMA, GURU VISHNU, GURUDEVO MAHESHWARA”.  Master can be any one in the universe even your parents, friends, spouse etc.can be your master.  You can even accept any form of God as your Master but only if God appeared to you in physical form or in meditation and has accepted to you as his disciple also. “Guru bina Gat Nahin” is a famous quote.  Even Lord Rama, Lord Krishna, Lord Hanuman, all God and Goddesses, 9 Narayan, 84 Sidhas, 33 Koti Deities all have accepted some one as Master.  Only Lord Shiva is exception who himself takes both form i.e. the Master and the disciple. For example Lord Shiva was the Master of Lord Rama but Lord Shiva in the form of Lord Hanuman was the disciple of Lord Rama.  Similarly Guru Matsyendra Nath was the direct disciple of Lord Shiva but Lord Shiva himself in the form of Guru Gorakhnath was his disciple.   You can have only one Master but can have more than one teacher at a time.  For example you can have separate teachers for learning mathematics, yoga, music and spiritualism etc.  You can make several arguments with your teachers with due respect but with Master you are just supposed to follow an order (The Aadesh). If you have any doubt upon the capabilities of your Master, you can not succeed at all.

Yeh tan vish ki belri, guru amrit ki khan,

Sheesh kata ke guru mile to bhi sasta jaan.

Remember, only Master, Teachers and the Parents are the persons who feel happy if you supersede them.  Even God will not like that some one to supersede him. Once you have accepted someone as your Master then show full trust in him/her.  The same concept applied for teachers also.  Let me give you an example:  The present coach of great tennis player Federar can not defeat Federer  but he can make him capable of winning the world which is not possible for him independently.

So completely surrender yourself towards your Master. Don’t try to win him.  Bulleshah has righteously said:

Jit Jit Umar Gavaai Hun Tu Haar Faquira, जित जित उमर गंवाई हूण तू हार फकीरा,

Jitte Da Mul Adh Kasira Haare Da Mul Heera. जित्ते दा मुल अदद कसिरा, हारे दा मुल हीरा।
