The confusion and dilemma of what to do… pressure to make a decision that has life defining potential! It is a situation in which one wrong choice can make parents and children lament for the rest of their lives. Why does this happen? Reason: because it is also a situation which is afflicted with the lack of relevant information at the right time. There is a dearth of career guidance and useful inputs on various institutes and courses that can help make a successful career. Even the rapid technological development and proliferation of newspapers, magazines and various other sources of information has not brought about the desired results. The need here is to understand how to collect and analyze all the information that is available through various means.
Mid way into a particular field of study, the student thinks that he has not chosen the right career or the institute and wonders if the right choice would have helped him in his career better. Parents too rue the fate and blame the very lack of information at that decisive hour. My experience says that fifty per cent students are deprived from pursuing a course of their choice due to the unavailability of information and thus, are suffering.
We will have to find an answer to these problems in such a manner that the benefit reaches all sections of society. I request anyone who is associated with education – wait, everyone has a stake in education, don’t they – so I request every one of you to come up with your suggestions. To come together to discuss, debate and highlight. I’m sure we’ll find a way.
