Year 2010 ended with the two thrilling series, one “Ashes” and another “Castle Test Series” between India and South Africa. World top 4 teams participated in that battle and we saw many great innings by many great players. Ponting failed in this and Australia lost Ashes at their home ground after 24 years. Critics raised fingers on his batting and captaincy and yes he is struggling for his batting from last one year but still you can’t deny that he is great player and he has done a lot for Australia. On the other hand India and South Africa fought for number 1 spot and in the end India retained his number 1 spot. This was not the fight between world’s top two teams but also it was the fight between world’s top 2 players, Kallis and Sachin. Both proved that they are undoubtedly extra-ordinary players. In this Series Kallis surpassed the Ponting’s records and reached to number 2 spot in Test centuries and Sachin crossed the land mark of 50 Test centuries and reached to 51.
Now days many people are discussing that who is the best Test player in the world. There are many people who can be the part of this battle including Don Bradman, Sunil gavasakar, Rahul dravid, VVS Laxman, Brain Lara, Gary Sobers, Allan Border and many others but I picked three who are the best as per my analysis/rating and now I will compare these three great players on different parameters.
1. Bating Records –
Match | Inns | Runs | HS | Ave | 100 | 50
Sachin | 177 | 290 | 14692 | 248* | 56.94 | 51 | 59 |
Kallis | 145 | 246 | 11947 | 201 | 57.43 | 40 | 54 |
Ponting | 152 | 259 | 12363 | 257 | 53.51 | 39 | 56 |
2. Bowling/Catches Records –
Match | Wicket | Bowling Avg | Catches
Sachin | 177 | 45 | 53.07 | 106 |
Kallis | 145 | 270 | 32.01 | 161 |
Ponting | 152 | 5 | 48.40 | 177 |
If you look at the bating record then we can say that Sachin is the best in this parameter with maximum number of centuries and runs. From the average perspective Kallis is leading. On the bowling parameter also Kallis is the best and nobody is near to his records. Ponting is leading in maximum number of catches. These were the common factors on which generally we rate players, but to judge these three great players on these parameters will not be the right judgment. I think these parameters can be the part of judgment but will not show the real picture. Any player becomes great when he performs in difficult conditions, difficult situation and against difficult teams. I read these parameters in the blog of one very good Sports Analyst. So now I am also going to compare these three players on these parameters and then we will decide that who is the best…
Tendulker | Kallis | Ponting
Centuries in 4th Inning | 5 | 1 | 4 |
Centuries in 3rd Inning | 8 | 9 | 2 |
Total | 13 | 10 | 6 |
Sachin has scored 13 centuries in 3rd/4th Inning and leading in this parameter while Kallis is second with 10. Ponting is nowhere in the frame of this parameter.
Tendulker | Kallis | Ponting
Against South Africa | 7 | NA | 8 |
Against India | NA | 6 | 6 |
Against Australia | 11 | 4 | NA |
Sachin has scored 11 against Australia and 7 against South Africa and again leading in this parameter also.
Tendulker | Kallis | Ponting
Away/Neutral | 29 | 19 | 18 |
Again Sachin is leading with 29 centuries and leading with great margin. So on the basis of above these parameters, it is very clear that Sachin is the best among these best players. There are few more things which make Sachin better than Ponting and Kallis…
So On the basis of all the parameters, I can say that SACHIN is the best among these great players…
